In 1982 Connie Carley, Michael Grant, and Clarice Bailey started PassinArt: A Theatre Company, the longest producing award-winning African American theatre company in Oregon, to provide more opportunities for African American artists and directors in the Portland Metropolitan area.
PassinArt’s theatrical productions, readings, exhibits, community talkbacks, and workshops have heightened cultural and social awareness from an African American perspective. In addition, we feature the work of emerging and celebrated African American and multicultural playwrights and directors. Our goal is to increase the visibility and viability of emerging local, regional, and national playwrights and directors.
PassinArt is an African American producing theatre company whose mission is to educate, entertain and celebrate our culture while highlighting issues that impact our community.
